For this front page story about what happens to money and items seized in drug raids, the assigning editor came to me and explained that there was this mediocre art and they'd like to make a centerpiece out of it. She and I talked about a design for it, and I edited the photos and put the design together.
That's one of my favorite experiences as a designer -- being told "We have no good art. Can you make a beautiful newspaper out of it?" I love those creative challenges.
